Image export - everytime 1 px bigger than the canvas or element

Hello everybody,

I have a problem with the Illustrator export as pixel based images.
JPEGs and PNGs are everytime 1 pixel bigger in width or height

in the resulting image than the elements or canvas/artboard dimension

is set in illustrator.

Because I have to create a new GUI with background images and a
full set of icons it is really inconveniant to open every PNG in Photoshop
again for resizing and re-saving.
Ticking the pixel grid button doesn't solve the problem unforunately.

Can you help me with it? Thanks for your replys in advance...

I had the same problem.  The solution was to make sure that the artboard on which the exported assets reside has x and y coordinates that are whole numbers (not decimals).  For example, my artboard was located at x=4750.7645 y=1100.883, and my 500px X 500px asset was exported into a 501px X 501px PNG.  When I moved the artboard to x=4750 y=1100, my asset exported as 500px X 500px.

We have made a fix in our latest release in Export for Screens and Asset Export. To use them you need to go to File > Export > Export > Export for Screens or Window > Asset Export. You need export them using scale or width/ height only.

P.S. : Your art and artboard should be pixel aligned. Also, all strokes aligned inside.

    Thanks & Regards

    Hi all,

What Nitish Agarwal says is correct, but it took more steps than I realized to get everything working properly.

Here are the steps I had to take:

    • Rulers
      • Units set to pixels
    • Artboard
      • Width and height set to whole pixels
      • Position set to 0, 0
    • Artwork
      • Expand all appearance, including fills and strokes (so no odd-sized or oddly-positioned strokes to worry about)
      • Width and height set to whole pixels
      • Make sure the positioning reference indicator in the top menu bar is set to top-left (usually it defaults to center, which is bizarre)
      • Position set to 0, 0
    • Exporting
      • I used File > Export for Screens...

    Cheers!

Can you post a link to one of the actual files?

What is the unit of measure that your document settings are on? Is your artboard set up for the exact dimension in pixels?

    Work with pixels as units.

Make sure that the X Y position coordinates and the Artwork dimensions don't contain fractions.
