Question

Image from adobe stock too large

Hi

I have downloaded an image from Adobe Stock which can only be opended in Adope Illustrator.

I'm trying to export the image as a picture file (e.g. TIFF). However, the file is too large to export in any format.

In Illustrator the image is more than 50 times the size of the working space! How can I make the image so that I can actually use it (i.e. export it as an image file).

The image below is from Illustrator and it shows just how large the image is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Anita,

Since Illustrator is scaling only part of the image, confirm that nothing is locked and that you have everything selected. Look in your Layers panel and unlock any locked layers. Then go to Object > Unlock All.

You’re welcome, Anita. You might want to turn it off again until you need it, or it will scale strokes as you draw and resize objects.

    It is huge indeed.

    Try to select all

Double click the Scale tool (S)

Check the Scale Strokes & Effects checkbox as suggested.

    Repeat until the right size

Get rid of the unnecessary clipping mask

    Hi Anita,

When you scale in Illustrator, have you enabled “Scale Strokes”? You can find it in several places, including the Transform panel, Scale dialog, and Preferences > General. When it is on, the strokes will scale proportionally.

Did you try to scale the artwork to smaller dimensions in Illustrator before exporting as an image?

Yes, I did. However the image starts to get very distorted if I try to reduce it such that it fits within the artboard/page.

You know how to transform objects proportionally by pressing the Shift key? Also: your screenshots require a login. Please use a different filehoster so they are accessible.

I'm working on a PC. the file is .ai (Adobe Illustrator) and it is 617 MB. I don't have photoshop on my computer, just Illustrator. However, I'd like to change the image to a tiff file so that I can use it in PowerPoint

The image in Illustrator is very large (the actual dimensions). I will try to send a printshot to show what I mean
