Hello. I am using Illustrator 27.6.1 The tool Image Trace is not working well. Would you please revise it. Thanks. Anja, Germany
Image Trace just doesn't work very well currently. Only thing you can do is install the older version and use it for the purpose.

Could you be more specific as to what is not working. Image Trace is a very tricky tool to work with even when it's working as it should. It's results can be daunting even for an experienced user.

I posted a complaint but now I'm kinda seeing the benefits of the new tracing tool.. It'll just take some getting use to.

The update to the Image Trace function has damaged its functionality. I am presently tracing some high-res b/w artwork. My workflow before the update was High Fidelity Photo > Black and White > adjust threshold if necessary > Abutting > Ignore White > Expand. The update took away the High Fidelity Photo preset and replaced it with options that do not trace worth a damn. I went back to the old version and will remain there until all of the previous presets are reinstated.

You hit the nail in the head. The new functionally seems like it could be useful but shouldn't have replaced the existing. I'm gonna revert as well until it's fixed.

I have been wondering what happened to this preset for days! I recently had to reinstall Illustrator and noticed it wasn't there. I normally use those same settings you mentioned above. However, now when I select "Ignore Color" with any preset my image thickens. It doesn't keep my hand drawn texture to it.

Thank you for your feedback. Please help us with some more details to understand your concern properly.
1. Are you getting similar results when applying the Photo preset in the latest version.
2. Please mention the Ai version that you were using prior to the upgrade
3. Please share any reference image for us to compare the results between old (as indicated for prev question) and new version (27.6.1)

Sorry, but I'm not going to install the new version (27.6.1) to give you an example, then go back. However, I will give you an image to trace using 27.5 (the one that works for me, with a workflow of High Fidelity Photo > Black and White > adjust threshold if necessary > Abutting > Ignore White > Expand) and the new version (using Photo, I guess from your reply).

Basically Image trace is not available anymore. It is replaced with some artsy useless thingy.
It is again this moment when somehow I happen to use latest Illustrator version. Usually the latest version is carbage and I use older versions. Every year same thing. Who asked for this new image trace? Why not fix the some broken features that have been broken 10 years at least. Transform each or eraser tool for lines for example. Next Pathfinder divide tool starts making ever cut fragment into starshaped rainbow colored objects.

The engineers do not read this space.
Same goes for the other features you mention.
But I really do not get what you say about Transform each or the Pathfinder Divide producing rainbows.

Yeah, I am somewhat struggling to do it with 2022 even. And 27.6.1 and 27.7 create a lot of clumps.
Please tell which exact settings you used in 2022 to get this result you have on the right.
Also please describe the exact path you took to get it. Were you first using the Default preset and then go from it, or some other one? Which one? Which parameters you set manually?
Also — is it the original image, not resized? Looks like it’s resampled a bit. Can you share the original one?
I am helping the team to get it fixed and they specifically askeed to share these details and originals.

I'm using image trace in the newest version for the first time. It is utter garbage now. I used to be able to bring in very complex pen and ink drawings and quickly and easily convert them to black and white vector. Now it's a mess. Nothing is working to get clean, tight vectors out of it. Why would you change something that was working totally well already!?!
