Image Trace in Illustrator 2025?

Hi everybody, I’m looking for some help with image trace settings or failing that advice on reverting to an older version of Illustrator. Image trace on the new version (2025) is nowhere near as good as the last version, which I think was called Illustrator 2022. On the last version the setting just called “Photo” did a good vector of the image you want to trace. In the new version the setting “High Fidelity Photo” does a terrible job!

As you can see in the examples here. The left image was traced in the pervious version and the right in the new version. This is making a right hash of my band’s poster. Does anybody know how to make the settings on the new one the same as the last version? and if not, can we go back to the old version of Illustrator? or is the update irreversible? Thanks for your help, Gareth

I do not understand why you are vectorizing these.

There are countless tools for upscaling images. And if a poster is that huge, then most probably you do not even need 300 ppi resolution.

Can you perhaps share one of the original images you are using for tracing?

Hi @Gareth_Williams,

It looks like the furthest back you can downgrade to is 2023's Illustrator 28.0. You can view other versions in Creative Cloud > Apps > and the ellipsis (...) in the bottom left of each app.

If you open up the panel for Image Trace, you can adjust things to refine it (the right side is the trace). It would help to retype the font though.

Thanks Tina. I’ll experiment with the settings tomorrow. Maybe your settings will produce a better result! Thanks again.
