Question

Images losing faces or not moving when doing things.

I dont really know how to explain this better but sometimes when I edit an image or move something the actual image doesnt move but the outlines and the paths do. Or part of the image will dissapear, like the face of it as you see in my picture. I usually have to hit undo a bunch of times until it goes back to normal. Seems like the paths are being edited but the preview isnt catching up. Anyone know how to fix this? It also happens when I am copy and pasting my images to powerpoint so that's annoying.  I've found that changing my stroke thickness will fix it but I feel like there should be a better fix.

I have a few questions to clarify your problem. This isn't to be pedantic, but to make sure what you're saying is the same as what I'm thinking. When you say "image," are you referring to a raster photograph or PNG in the Illustrator file, or do you just mean the vector graphics that you are working on inside Illustrator? Also, when you say part of it "disappears" is it gone for good, as in you can't see the paths or shapes in the layers panel any longer or is it still there in the layers but not showing properly? (I have a bug on my machine that sometimes things "disappear" but they're actually just not being rendered. When I zoom in or out it will refresh the preview and actually show me the correct preview.)

If this is a bug, in fact, then I'm misunderstanding. It sounds like, though, that you may be trying to select something and it only selects a portion of what you are intending to select. Illustrator is set up, by default, to select only what you click on. If you click on a shape, it will select that shape, even if it looks like it belongs in a larger group. If you have grouped your graphics, it will select the entire group instead. If you have multiple objects in a layer, it will still only select the individual objects in that layer unless you group them together. One thing about Illustrator that bugs me sometimes is I'll select multiple layers and when I click to move them, it only moves what I clicked on instead of what I had selected. I haven't researched how to change this behaviour and have learned to live with it since it's the default behaviour.

If you're familiar with how Illustrator works (in regards to selecting and moving objects) and it's something beyond what I was describing, please provide a little more info about what you're doing when paths and outlines move but not the filled objects or if you know what may trigger things disappearing.

Hope that helps.

I mean vector graphics not rasterized images. and no it is not gone for good if you look at the screenshot I shared you can see that "face" of the graphic is missing, but it is still there. If I change the graphic in some way (stroke thickness) it comes back. Definitely is just not being rendered for whatever reason. Zooming in or out doesn't doing anything. And it is technically a compound path that has been extruded but I never have any issues of it acting as individual shapes. Hope this provides enough information, I'm pretty new to Illustrator.

So this is a 3D effect?

Try and adjust the perspective slides in the effect options by 1 or 2 degrees.
