Hello, new to this community.

I have an issue when I export a PDF from eDrawing and then import the PDF to Illustrator to be able to do the illustration of the product. When I try to embedd the link I get an error message saying something like: "Document contains PDF object that has been interpreted.

A un-known picture contruction has been detected."

And the the picture just becomes a big black blob.

Any suggestions as to what is wrong?

Sorry, I mean that I  use the command "Place" and not import of course.

Added a picture of "The blob".

Illustrator can only import what eDrawing saves into the file.

How does this look in outline view when you zoom in?

Looks "normal" to me though I am no expert.

Another strange thing is that first I was able to place the document and everything looked OK but then when I tried to embedd it the error message came up. But now the error message comes as soon as I try to pace it i a new document. SO the problem shifted during the day.

And "normal" means what?

And if that looks normal, then what is the problem?

Hi @sara_9801,

I’m sorry to hear you’re running into this frustrating issue with your PDF import! It sounds like Illustrator is having trouble interpreting the way eDrawing saves the PDF. Illustrator can sometimes struggle with PDFs if they aren’t saved with Illustrator editing capabilities, which might be why you see that “blob.”

If possible, could you try exporting the file from eDrawing in another format, like DXF, DWG, or SVG? These formats might work better when placed in Illustrator, as they often preserve editable vector elements.

If you’re still seeing the black blob issue, feel free to share the PDF or other files you’re trying to place, and we’ll help take a closer look.

We’re here to help you work through this!

Best,

Anshul Saini

Hi, no option to save it in thoses suggested formats unfortunately what I can see.

The strange thing is that I was a student 6 months ago and worked with the exact same file I am now trying to work with (for practice)and was able to place, embedd and ungroup without any issues.

The two differences tha tI ca nthink of is that I was on a student license then and now I have a corporate license for my job for Creative Cloud.

Plus I was not using Acrobat Pro as PDF reader, I only used the web version of Acrobat. Is that something that could be affecting?

Thank ou in advance. //Sara

Hi @sara_9801,

The license type or using Acrobat Pro as a PDF reader shouldn’t affect this issue. It’s likely more related to how the PDF was exported or interpreted by Illustrator.

Could you share the PDF file with us so we can take a closer look?

Looking forward to assisting you further!

Best regards,

Anshul Saini
