Importing from Sketchup to Illustrator via PDF

I've seen several tutorials on how to import 3D sketchup files via PDF into Illustrator that allows a shape to be manipulated from a certain perspective once the PDF is imported.  I'm wondering if it's possible to import a 3D PDF into Illustrator that would allow me to change its orientation once it's in illustrator.

For example, I work in the offshore wind industry and I'm working on site layouts for a harbor.  If I import a 3d file for something like a blade in its frame and I want to show it in another position at a different angle, can I manipulate that shape in Illustrator by importing it via PDF?  Does it need to be a 3D PDF or will exporting it as a standard PDF suffice?
