Why don't I have this? I'm seeing it used in a lynda.com training video on Illustrator CC...

Never mind. I found the tool in the flyout under the line tool. Go figure!

That's an Advanced illustrator option

Goto Window > Toolbars > Advanced (set it to Advance mode)

Now you can see line segment tool on the left of your work space

Right click on Line Segment Tool

and

Choose Rectangular Grid Tool

Have a happy Isomeric Illustration

This is the helpful answer.   You need to change your toolbar to 'advanced' first.  If your toolbar is set to 'basic', you won't see the grid tool.

Thanks

MystiMac,

Is it not in the flyout when you ClickHold the mouse over the Line Tool?

Hi Jacob,

Thanks, yes, in the meanwhile, I did find it in the flyout behind the line tool. I'd been looking for it under the shape tool. So, problem solved. And thanks again for your prompt (and correct) response.

No wonder, MystiMac. It can be difficult to guess where things are hidden away.

And my response was less than prompt. I had to leave when opening the thread, then I had a look, posted, and left again, without seeing just how slow I had been.

Well, First of all there is no "Toolbars" nor "advanced" menu anywhere in "Windows". I could only change some by choosing different Workspace profiles like "essentials", "painting" etc... Tried them all but no mater what right clic on any tools did NOTHING... So no grid tool for me I guess. Time to go play with Affinity me thinks...

Which version of Illustrator is it then?

And please show screenshots.

Hi,

I have Illustrator 2020 on Windows 10. Here is a screenshot of the Advanced setting for Toolbars, as reguc23905246 mentioned.

Regards

There are three dots at the bottom of the toolbar. Click that, there you have all the tools available that you can drag and drop in your toolbar. Select and use. Happy adobeing!
