Indesign change page layout

hi there, I'm changing an existing layout from letter to A4. is there a way to do this without having to adjust each item on every page within my 42 page document? I've tried fiddling around and it would appear that I simply have to alter each item on every page which is a pain in the a$$. any help welcome, thanks
