Insufficient memory to complete operation

I have completed a graphic and I want to export it to a file format which I can import into a cad program. The cad program requires jpg, png, or bitmap. and will not accept a pdf. Of that available, jpg or png are my choice. The graphic is on a 36"X24" artboard but does not result in a large file. The ai file is 1.75mb, When I attempt to do the export I get the isufficient memory message. I have 4gb of RAM and never more than one half is in use. My OS is Vista Ultimate X64. If I save this file as a pdf and try to in turn save the pdf to a jpg, I get a similar message; however, I have converted other pdf files to jpg successfully and these files were 4.4mb. but were not created from .ai. I do have the quality setting high, but it would seem that 2GB of unused ram would be adequate to convert a 1.75mb file. I have tried closing all programs and dumping temp files but the problem remains.

I am not familiar enough with ai or computers to know where to look for some esoteric setting that may be the problem. Nonetheless I need to be able to do this on a regular basis and therefor need someone's help.

What resolution are you trying to use for the save? Try reducing the number in the save dialog to 150 or less and try again.

Resolution is 300dpi. Anythin less looks as if it were done using 6" paintbrush, in a printed document. Again, one would think there is more than adequate memory. Lastly, I tried "poor quality", with the same results.

Do you have any guides on your artboard? Have you got the Use Artboard checked in the Export dialog? Was this originally from a Web and Video New Dcoument Format? Can you give us some more information on the items on the artboard.

I do have use artboard checked. There were guides used in the creation, but were deleted before attempting export. Document is new and was created as a print document for this express purpose. It has no blens or special effects, it is basically a line drawing. Does that do any more than just make it harder?

Did you try with Anti-aliasing off? I just did one to the same size with some line work on it and had no problem exporting it to a .png, even with a white background but I did it with the Anti-aliasing off.

If you are using Illustrator CS4, then you are experiencing the Nasty Memory Bug that Adobe refuses to fix. Is a random bug, one file can be 3GB without any problem, but the next file can be 2MB and you get the annoying "Insufficient Memory" warning.

Please keep in mind that Adobe doe not provide updates, nor cares to fix anything. Adobe loves to sell you the new version with new and old bugs without updates.

If you are not using version CS4 there are way to optimized the computer. Please let us know what version you have.

I am using CS4. Surely there is a way around this, but you sound as if there is not.

No solutions, no updates, Adobe does not care. But do not worry the new CS5 is due this April and Adobe will send you junk mail for you to buy it.

But before you pre-order from this company that does not care about its faulty software, find out what bugs are you going to get with CS5 version. In this way you know that you wont get any updates, and whatever bugs comes with the version, Adobe WILL NOT fix them.

I'm not sure this will work but I have succesfully used this trick on InDesign documents that were not behaving properly. Unlock all the layers and SELECT ALL and COPY.

Than create a BRAND NEW document and PASTE your artwork into it.

Save the document with a new name.

Than try doing what you were trying to do in the first place.

Be sure and let me know if it actually works! It does for me on InDesign documents where the text won't flow properly.

I am also experiencing the same problem. I have been trying to export a jpg from an illustrator document I have been working on. It is 13 MB and 18 x 24, exporting as .jpg 300 dpi as required by my print supplier. The program will only output 150 dpi successfully. I have Design Premium CS5 with windows 7 Professional 64-bit, Intel Core 2 DUO 1.83GHz, 3GB DDR2 ram. I have tried all of the suggested output methods described in previous post, I have gone even one step further and bought a new laptop to output the file for production. The new PC has CS5 with windows 7 64-bit, Intel® Core™ i7-740QM processor

Features a 6MB L3 cache and 1.73GHz processor speed with Turbo Boost up to 2.93GHz, 6GB DDR3 1333MHz ram. After installing CS5 and trying to output the same file at 300dpi, the pc still says insufficient memory to complete. This is a serious problem. I have a business to run and even the latest and greatest can't seem to run Adobe properly. I installed some of the windows gadgets to monitor the system resources during export. Everything seems to be at minimal consumption, in fact the new pc just seemed to speed up the error message. This problem is obviously not a system performance issue. My clients don't expect less from me than what they pay for and I don't expect less from Adobe. Needless to say, I am returning the new PC for a 15% restocking fee (More money lost). I may as well us MS Paint and save myself some money. ADDRESS THE ISSUE, ADOBE!!!

Upgrading to the latest version of acrobat 8 seemingly has solved my

problem....so far. Perhaps Windows 7 is now an issue just as Vista was with

me. I note we both are using 64bit versions.

It is now 2015 and I am having the issue as well. I have tried numerous things that have been suggested in these conversations. I cannot export a file in illustrator to save as a jpg or other. These are large files and need to be large. But I have plenty of empty space on my laptop. Are there any new updated things I can try?

The only thing that is working right now for me is to save for web and devices. But even that makes my illustrator crash at times. I am also still unable to go to the max size file that I would like to use.

Is it really time for a super huge/fast computer at this point?

Yes, I have 3.75 usable GB of RAM. Is this not enough for illustrator anymore? I never had an issue until this year. I've been using it and this particular laptop for design for over three years.

Not the same files, but files in general never prompted the error for not having enough memory to save them. I'm doing more large files than I have in the past.

? That doesn't help me figure out how to save large files without my illustrator crashing and giving me errors when I try to save (for example a 2400x3000 px ) file. Do I need more than 3.75 RAM now to do that through Illustrator?

What OS and version? What version of AI? Most newer Operating Systems will require more than 4GB of RAM esp. if lots of other apps are open at the same time. Have you tried with just AI open?

Windows 7. Illustrator is 5. I have tried it while nothing is running and I get the same results.

That combination will not work. AICS5 is a 32 bit app and can access only 3GB of memory.

Can you tell me what my options are at this point? New computer? I had stated before that I have used this program and this laptop for over three years and didn't have issues until this year. I had forgotten that for a year in there I had been paying a monthly fee to adobe for the CS6, but canceled that a year ago.

And I apologize for not being very computer savy.... but... If it can only acccess 3GB and I have 3.75 avail, why does that not work?

Even 3 GB is not enough for your images.

You can try and let Photoshop do the raterizing. Open the AI file in Photoshop and specify the size you need.
