is there a way to automate inch to metric in a illustrator PDF file or if not a program that can do this?

I have 5000 + Schematic files where all the measurements are in inches and need them converted to metric. is there a way to run a batch but change all the numeric characters to metric from inches?

we need more info!

taking an inch value and converting to mm is no problem.
working out if its a measurement and not a Qty or something is ok, if it has the unit included, ie.  12 inches or 12"

but most important it needs to be text and not vector shapes.

if this last part does not make sense then I recommend posting a sample file online and linking us to it.

i have a total of 5000 + schematics and we need to change all the numeric characters from inches to metric. they are texted. but most of the values have fraction symbols if that is another problem to think about. instead of 2.5 we have it 2 1/2. What we have is a picture of our product and showing the measurements, height, width ect. and instead of doing all this manually can a script be written to find all numeric value and change from inch to metric has a batch. if the case comes up concerning the fraction to decimals issue then is there a way to run a script to convert those then run the script change all inches to metric.

question.. is there a program or template somewhere to make a schematic that easily be programmed to changed without manually opening up the file and changing the value?
