Is there a way to revert a text box to a shape?

I'm trying to help someone with an issue where they accidentally changed a complex shape into a text box.  It wasn't the most recent step to simply hit "undo" for, but they don't want to have to re-create the shape itself.  Is there a way to tell Illustrator that you want to change the textbox back into a shape?

Select the edge of the type object with the Direct Selection tool (or Group Selection tool), then copy and paste.

Awesome, thank you.  For a complex shape, it seems like even with the direct selection tool it tries to duplicate the entire object as a text box, but if a single edge is deselected and reselected it treats the selection as a shape (for anyone else who runs into this issue in the future).
