is there a way to set illustrator to save a jpg at different ppi without changing dimensions?

Hi, I am trying to export to JPG with a final desired resolution of 150 but keeping my dimensions the same. example: 6 x 6 inch square art is set up in illustrator, but when I save to jpg at 150, it becomes 12 inches. Yes, I understand why, but...

Is there a way to keep it at 6 in while getting my resolution to read 150?

I need to have that resolution show in the file info/in the metadata, and I'm sick of doing math for more oddly sized things!! Thanks!

You can use Export for Screens and use a Resolution for Scale.

nope, here's what happens. at 100% i get a 6 inch swatch, but the resolution is 72.  doubling it won't work either.

That's just not how Illustrator works.

Inches can be kept, pixels can not.

You did not select Resolution from the menu.

I did try that with resolution selected. And it changed the pixel dimensions.

It keeps the size, sets the resolution and changes the amount of pixels to get that resolution.

I probably misunderstand it, but this is a 6 inch artboard exported at 150 ppi and placed back in Illustrator.

starting with this in illustrator- here's my artboard it's 903 x 774:

 then, after using "save for screens" at 150ppi, it's still the wrong size.

You are mixing inches and pixels, size and amount. A pixel does not have a fixed size, an inch does. When working with pixels you always need to tell how many of those pixels will fit in an inch (like 72 or 150). If you want a fixed amount of pixels and a certain resolution you define the size of an image. Same amount of pixels but an higher ppi will give you a smaller image. In Illustrator increasing the ppi will increase the amount of pixels while keeping the physical size of the image. You can increase the ppi later in an app like Photoshop or Mac Preview when you turn off Resample when changing the ppi. This will make the image smaller while keeping the same amount of pixels.

I do understand this, so I suppose then, my question is actually, does Illustrator allow you to set both ppi (pixels per inch AND dimensional size in inches when exporting to jpg.

You cannot export as an image in Illustrator and specify a ppi higher than 72 without generating additional pixels. There is no option to turn off resampling when changing the ppi.
