Is there any way to change the default location (spacing) for new artboards?

When creating a new artboard in an existing document, the default spacing is always 0.2778 inch. I find this spacing extremely inconvenient. For example, I want to quickly create an 8-page document, so I click on "New Artboard" 8 times. But I can only layout content on one page at a time. It would be much more convenient if I could just move/copy my first page layout by nice whole numbers like 9 inches to quickly fill the lineup of pages, instead of having to figure out what 8.5 + .2778 is, and then add that to itself 7 times.

Is there any way to set the default to 1/2 inch, or any other reasonable number? I can't believe there is no way to change this to some other unit or scale. It's not a round number in either picas or millimeters.

Units in the preferences = pt

If you want 1/2 inch spacing , just set the parameter to 36 pt.

51.023 (pt) is just a sample if you want to get 18 mm spacing (1 mm = 2,8346 pt and therefore 18 mm ≈ 51.023 pt).

Could you explain the units used in the preference setting? What number would I enter in order to get 1/2 inch (36 point) spacing? The example given uses "51.023" as the numeric entry — what kind of unit is that?
