Issue when rasterizing artwork in illustrator

We have an issue that has been introduced in recent (past 12+ months) updates to illustrator.

When we rasterize artwork, illustrator is rasterizing in a white pin line a random spot in the artwork.

We can usually work around this by undoing and re-rasterizing with a small adjustment made to the resolution. It takes between 1 and 5 attempts to get a successfull result.

This is a timely work around and if missed the pinline is visable in our large format prints.

Does anyone hace a resolution to this issue?

Rasterizing vector artwork and yielding good results can be a tricky process. Much of it depends on how the artwork is designed, sized and positioned in relation to the target pixel grid and its resolution level. This matters a great deal when designing graphics for things like LED-based variable message signs.

If you are doing large format printing work is there a reason why you're having to convert the vector art to pixel form before printing? What kind of large format RIP does your shop use?

Hi Bobby,

We used to rasterize for older rips that would have issues handling certain types of tranparency.

The most common reason for us to rasterize now is if we get a 'Can't save illustration' error on larger files (most often consisting of a combination of vector and high resolution bitmap).

My frustration is this is a new anomoly with recent updates.

We have been rasterizing problem files flawlessly for over a decade through illustrator.

I understand. I have two different builds of Illustrator installed on my office computer to get around a different issue in the past couple of point-level releases.

Do resolutions with a multiple of 72 (144, 288) ppi work better?

When you Rasterize, what is your Anti-aliasing setting? If it's Type Optimized, switch it to Art Optimized

Thanks Brad. Yes our anti-aliasing setting is art optimized.

We have been rasterizing potential proplem files for print for 10+ without an issue.

This has been introduced in a recent update.

Hello @carlp31101002,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind sharing more details, like the OS/Illustrator version, a sample AI file, and the exported file after uploading them to a file-sharing service, so I can try to replicate this on my end?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
