Kurt,
I hope your statement is less final than it looks.

No, never fear, Jacob.
I was just going to show a raw picture my goddaughter took while hiking some days ago early in the morning. It shows some white stuff (well, not quite the one you are looking for), but as well it shows the sun in almost perfect harmony with the moon. And as an unexpected bonus: A ship.

A most exquisite and unusual picture, Kurt, please also tell your goddaughter.

And perhaps several airplanes. Beautiful. If it's not invasive, may I ask where?

Of course, you may ask, Peter.
That's where I was born and where I spent about 25 years of my lifetime (long ago).
The place where the picture had been taken is about at 50.050052, 7.767826
Good Night

Thank you, Kurt. My guess was far closer than I dared hope.

I saw this rather late, Kurt.

The position is a bit westwards. This time without the sun and the moon, but obviously with the real white stuff.
Pictures taken today.

Kurt,
Am I right in believing that we are looking at many white wine fields?

Yes, you are right, Jacob.
Long ago, when I was a child and a young man I worked (or had to work) a lot in the steep slope viticulture. There are a lot of very steep vineyards in that region. Some gradients are up to over 60º (the one on the second picture is rather very harmless).
In the past there was no way to use machines to make it easier to harvest the grapes. There were only carrying cases and a lot of patience and hardiness.
Now the hillsides are white, but it won't last very long there. The river's heating will melt it soon, as always.

Rain.
But some years ago I took this photo. An admired space probe? Or do you think it is something else?

Kurt, I have wondered and pondered over this.
It seems to have a very early version of the qudropod, recently reinvented, and it also has what looks like two pointed sheets or thin bars pointing down; and it seems to be something far more complicated than a (cine) camera seen at an angle from behind.
So far, I am at a loss.
Anyone else has an answer, or some pondering to share?

We've had plenty (though nothing like the Lower 48) for some weeks now, which has turned to half-hearted melting and rain and refreezing. Still plenty of white. Unfortunately, no photos of the bejeweled fairyland that it was. I've been more or less off-planet for a spell, mostly in a good way.

Peter, I believe you will have to be on, at least on the 8th and 9th, lest you be tragically missed.

Today everything is coated with a thin dusting of icing sugar. I'm not sure whether snow or overenthusiastic frost.

Neighbour kids built a little snowman, which is still standing after 3 days. Quite unusual for this place and time of year.

A closer view of the thing. What is it?

A theodolite?

I wish you'd caught it, Doug.
But it's something completely different. It's not a weapon, by the way.
