Joining 2 lines at the end

I recently did a tutorial and learned to joing 2 horizonal lines with a short vertical line, using 1 step.

I've lost the tut and want to do this again.  Can you tell how to do this?  I am ataching a screenshot to try and explain what I mean.  Join betweeen the arrows using 1 step.ai3.jpg

Use the Direct Selection tool (White Arrow)to select the two end points with a box select and the use Cmd (Ctrl)-J to Join them.
