In the last couple weeks Illustrator has been lagging alot when I try and zoom in/out as well as when move around the document. At first I thought it was because of the complexity of my files but it does the same thing and brand new empty documents.
Ive tried all the advice lised on adobe's Improve Illustrator performance on macOS page. And nothings helpec.
The rest of my CC applications work just fine.
I don't think it has anything to do with my computer. It's a brand new mac book pro with 32 GB of RAM.
Any ideas?

Hi there,
Sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind sharing version of the OS & Illustrator?
I'd request disabling GPU Performance under Preferences > Performance & see if it helps.
Looking forward to your response.

Same here. Attached recording is with GPU preview on and contantly doing Alt+scroll wheel. Feels like it stutters consistently after every three scroll wheel inputs. Same happens with panning with scroll whell. With Ctrl+ -/+ to zoom in/out is fine and responsive. With CPU preview and scroll wheel it is slow but does not stutter. 5700X + 3060 12GB on Windows 10 here.
This problem is making this app basically unusable for me, and with this thread being here for so long without a solution I might as well just switch to Affinity Designer.

What helped me was to:
- Disable GPU Performance
- Restart Illustrator
- Enable GPU Performance again

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. Could you please share a few more details, such as
- OS and the version of Illustrator you're using?
- Does this problem occur with new files as well, or only with complex ones?
- When did this issue start happening? Have there been any recent changes to your machine, such as updates or new app installations?
- Does it improve if you turn off GPU performance?
We're here to help, and with a bit more information, we'll be better equipped to assist you.

Late in 2024 and panning still sucks in Illustrator. I am using a 3 D sofware on the same laptop, which does far more complex things and it works just fine. But Illustrator is a frustrating PITA!! So much time I am loosing in my workflow for Illustrator to do my bidding. I guess, too much going on in the background with monitoring every user. Illustrator I HATE you!!

This is an old thread with a couple of answers.
From all the things that have been proposed in this thread: what have you tried already?

Hello @tinalisa_0655,
Our team has made some improvements to this in the latest Illustrator release. Would you mind updating to Illustrator 2025 v29.0 and checking if it helps alleviate this problem?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
