I need to remove the white stripes on a red&white candy cane and join the red stripes for an image half the length, get it?
Actually the need is to open 100-500mb tiff images of tree ring cores and remove cracks/gaps, same concept as the candy cane.
Photoshop seems unable to do this and now Illustrator seems unable to do this simple task. I need to do it 100 times.. Image shows use of lasso to outline and select white area, now I want to remove white area and bring top and bottom image parts to join together, for one edited image of dark wood piece.
Please help. Perhaps I will have to find some other software otherwise
Cheers

I don't understand the problem.
Besides: if you want to edit pixel images, use Photoshop.

it is confusing whether your comment means you don't understand how i could not know how to do the task, or whether you actually don't understand the candy cane example.
I began with this question on the Photoshop guru forum and no one seems able to solve it despite over 120 views , so then i put it on Illustrator forum assuming i could save in pixel format. Yes, i need pixels as the software for recording tree rings utilizes the exact (uncompressed, and thus tiff) format.
please help if you can
