Question

Layers Panel extends below AI window

Hi all...

Have a small but bugging problem. I use AI (CC 2016/7) maximised - Windows 10. Have the various panels docked on the right. Problem is that the layers panel (bottom) gets pushed / extended outside the window. Result is that all the options at the bottom are hidden. Dragging it out, resizing and putting it back doesn't help.

Any ideas?

TIA,

Cheers...

Have you tried resetting your workspace to Essentials? You can go to the menu Window > Workspace > Essentials (or down to Reset Essentials) or through the drop down menu on the top right to access the workspaces there.

    Hi Myra...

Doesn't help as Essential (default) doesn't have 'Layers' as a panel...

Anyway, the scene is this... I've customised my workspace, with the Layers panel docked at the bottom. What happens is that the moment I expand one of the panels above - say the Stroke Panel - it pushes the bottom of the Layers Panel below the window. Now, I can't access the options / tools at the bottom of the Layers Panel. Only option is to drag it out, resize it and then dock it back. A PIA. Resetting the workspace means that whatever configuration is open disappears (reverts to saved workspace..). again. a PIA.

I would have no hassle if the Layers Panel compressed. But no, it goes off the window.

    Am I missing something?

    Cheers,

Hmm... would you post a screenshot? I ask because I'm not sure why the Layers panel would get pushed down when you open another panel if they are all docked. The expected behavior would be that the Layers panel would close when you open the other panel. The closest I can get to reproducing the bottom of the Layers panel going off the screen is if I float a group of panels (and I am also on the most recent version of Illustrator on Windows 10). Even at that, I can still move the title bar or drag the tab of one of the other panels to group more than one of the panels together which exposes the bottom of the Layers panel.

Also, if you've customized your workspace, have you tried moving the Layers panel to the top? And have you saved your custom workspace? I would say if it gets wonky, then you could reset it back to how you customized it.
