Lightning effect

I've got an illustrator file which has lightning going over a background, the blue in the bolt shows lovely over the black but disappears over the pink/purple gradation and the white glow becomes too prominent, has anyone ever had to over come anything like this before, if so how?

Check the blending mode in the transparency panel of the lighting bolt. Depending on how constructed you may be able to change blending g mode to normal.
