Line Stroke with AlphaNumerics?

It would be great to be able to combine alpha-numerics with the dashed line types. Is this possible? For example, some design drawings might combine a letter every so often to indicate a "water" versus "sewer" line, but they might have the same dash-gap sequence. It would be nice to have this feature.

You can do that sort of thing by making Art Brushes or Pattern Brushes and applying them to line strokes. Any lettering would have to be converted to outlines though.
