Line weight differences

New Here ,
Apr 23, 2022 Apr 23, 2022

I am making an artwork for production. I need all the line weights for all the shapes to be the same because I am making a dieline. When I click on each shape/path to observe the weight, they all show they are the same. However, when I select several shapes at one time, the field for the line weight is empty which usually indicates that there is one or more of the weights which differs.

Any thoughts or ideas where I am checking this incorrectly.

What happens if you select just one object and then go to Select menu > Same > Stroke Weight?

when you select several shapes at one time, are all these shapes have stroke ONLY ?

did you scale some objects during the design process ? if yes, scale stroke and effects could be turned off.

you can select the same stroke weight as mentioned by @Kurt Gold  then outline the stoke for object  -> Path -> outline stroke

Yes I get you. However, I have not scaled anything. I simply checked each one. They were correct. Without doing anything else, I selected several. No weight showing. That usually means there is a variable. Thanks for the response.

Cam,

What happens if you just select all of them, then set the desired Stroke Weight in the Stroke panel?

Yes, I can do that but if just seems odd to me that if they individually test each one, the stroke is already at the desired weight.

Check if you did not use various calligraphic brushes, they may show as the same stroke size but can be very different.

The strokes might have different "other" attributes, like corner shapes, etc. Even if they are all the same weight, those other attributes may trigger it to read the way you're seeing it. Another possibility: there's a random stray point or empty text object part of the group you're selecting.

An easy way to test: Select one of the strokes on one good object, then Select > Same > Stroke Weight, then Hide those objects temporarily. If there's anything left visible, they might be the problem.
