Hello, community,
I want to make a beard, so I am trying to make different layers for my beard.
the lower one should be above the other one, SO I want to eliminate the lines of the layer that is behind (eliminate the intersection lines). I tried with the eraser but it creates a thicker borderline that damaged the style. other tools I tried, eliminate all the intersections, but I only want to eliminate the lines in the intersection of ONE of the layers (not both).
This is basically what I would like to have: only the lines of the front layer.
Any ideas?
I am really lost here.
Thank you in advance
Make a copy of the outer line of the shape that should be on top - paste in place and fill with black.
Select new shape and back shape - Choose Make Mask in the transparency pallet. This will cut the back object based on the shape of the front one.
The result will allow background color to show through.

Is it an option to give the outermost path a fill?

The thing is that I need to change the background of the illustration, for example black line and orange or blue background.

Hello, I have a question. I did exactly what you explained to me above but it looks like I have ghost lines. Dunno how to remove them
I made them with blend tool and line by line with the pen tool, to see if it was the mode I made them. but both ways, the same result.
What I am doing wrong?

Aleja,
Another Transparency option is Knockout Group, based on filling the outermost part as suggested by Doug:
1) Select the filled path and in the Appearance palette click the white Fill to select (only that), then in the Transparency palette set the Opacity to 0,
2) Ctrl/Cmd+G to Group everything,
3) In the Transparency palette tick Knockout Group.
Much as in here, which also includes a Shape Builder way and a Pathfinder way:
