Hello @paultech,
I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I tried replicating this behavior on my end but could not. Would you mind sharing more details, like a sample file after packaging it, a screen recording of the problem, and the macOS system report (https://adobe.ly/4fE0DKq), so I can check it with team?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

I'm also seeing this issue in my company's art department. At least 2 of them are seeing this on their 2024 Macbook Pro on Mac OS 14.6 a couple months ago and now still on 14.7.1 with Illustrator 28.6 and 29.0. It happens whether the linked file is local or on a network share, and with multiple file types (.psd, .jpg, .png). The problem exists in every Illustrator project opened on the affected systems whether old or new.

Hello @MatthewM_LT,
It seems like you’re encountering an issue with the Links panel not showing the correct creation and modification dates for linked files, and I can understand how frustrating that must be, especially with multiple file types and projects.
To help us investigate this further, could you please share the following details, as my colleague Anubhav suggested:
1. The affected file(s) and links that are showing incorrect date information.
2. Test the issue in a new document: Copy the content from an existing project and relink the files there. If you’re still able to replicate the issue, a screen recording would be very helpful.
3. The macOS system report (you can get this here: System Report).
Once we have this information, I’ll be able to escalate it to the team for a deeper look. Thank you for your patience!
Best,
Anshul Saini

I've got the same problem. Just reproduced it with a quick test file, dragged in two images from the Pictures folder and the dates are not just wrong, they are the same totally wrong date and time. It's a bug in your software and from reading this page, it seems to be a problem for years. Running macOS 18.4.1 and Illustrator 29.5, the latest of each. No server involved, and a brand new Illustrator file. See attached files as proof.

Hi @bradmacpro@aol.com,
Thanks so much for sharing the screenshots and explaining the steps you followed. To help us look into this further and get it in front of the right team, could you please share the Illustrator file you tested with, along with the linked images showing the incorrect date? If you can also include the original source files from the folder you used, that would be helpful.
If possible, a short screen recording of the steps you’re taking would give us a clearer picture. Lastly, please share your macOS system report when you get a chance so we can pass everything along for further investigation.
Appreciate your help. Looking forward to your update.

I created a new file and opened with Links window which was of course blank at this moment. I went into my pictures folder and found a couple of random pictures there and dragged them into the window, resized a large one to fit on the page. I clicked the little arrow in the window to show the information about date and saw what is shown in the screenshots. The files could not have the date and time as shown there. See the attached files. Illustrator 2022 doesn't have this problem. A client of mine makes use of this information daily and is now transitioning to Illustrator 2025 and it's going to be affecting their workflow. From the comments here, it seems to be an ongoing bug for quite a while, different operating systems and different versions of Illustrator. Maybe it works fine under Windows and you don't test everythign under macOS, but this does seem like it's something you can and should fix. I'm going to have to check if Affinity Designer has this same bug.

My Illustrator 29.2.1 does not show the correct information for the Created and Modified dates.
Running Mac OS Sequoia 15.3.1 on a Mac Studio 2022 with an Apple M2 Pro Chip.
All links show Feb. 6, 2040 date, even though the actual linked files are correct.
It doesn't matter what kind of file was imported or where it ws imported from.
Can someone help rectify this problem?

Those files are located on the desktop?
And Get Info in the Finder shows the correct date?
Did you already reboot the computer and reset the Illustrator preferences? This will erase all your settings.

It doesn't matter if the files came from the desktop or drive.
Wherever I pull the file from the creation date in Illustrator shows Feb 6 2040.
Get info shows the correct date. But I need to see the correct date in illustrator.
Especially updating links as my work environment is very fast.

Hello @IMac338927237630s,
Could you check if you have the Desktop folder synced to iCloud (https://adobe.ly/4lcignG) and temporarily disabling it to see if it helps?
Also, try running Illustrator under a different administrator account (macOS) and share your observations.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
