Question

Links panel doesn't show the correct creation and modification dates

Illustrator 28.7.1 does not show the correct information for the Created and Modified fields.

Running Mac OS Sonoma 14.7 on a Mac Studio 2022 with an Apple M1 Max chip.

All links show Feb. 6, 2040 date, even though the actual linked files are correct.

Hello
did this ever get resolved?  Having same issues even with AI latest version 2025, 29.8.2 using a Mac Studio, Apple M2 Max chip, on Sequoia 15.7.1.  Please advise.  thanks

My Illustrator 29.2.1 does not show the correct information for the Created and Modified dates.

Running Mac OS Sequoia 15.3.1 on a Mac Studio 2022 with an Apple M2 Pro Chip.

All links show Feb. 6, 2040 date, even though the actual linked files are correct.

It doesn't matter what kind of file was imported or where it ws imported from.

Can someone help rectify this problem?

Those files are located on the desktop?

And Get Info in the Finder shows the correct date?

Did you already reboot the computer and reset the Illustrator preferences? This will erase all your settings.

I suggest to see if other dates on your computer are correct and fux the information,

Go to the OS preferences and makesure the dates are ok!

The Dates on the OS are correct.

It is just when I import a link into illustrator that it reads Feb 2040 in the links dialogue menu.

Can some one at Adobe please FIX this issue??!!

I noticed it started a few years ago....I just can't believe NO ONE has adderssed it or fixed it.

In the "Links" pallet window, under "Created" & "Modify"

it ALWAYS says "Feb 6, 2040 at 6:28:15am"

It's still there in Adobe Illustrator 2026 v30.0 Apparently Adobe is only good for collecting subscription money and not fixing bugs.

Hello @bradmacpro@aol.com,

I'm sorry to hear you're having similar trouble with Illustrator. Could you please confirm the version of the OS installed and provide a link to a sample file(s) after uploading it to a file-sharing service, so we can review it with the team?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I'm also seeing this issue in my company's art department. At least 2 of them are seeing this on their 2024 Macbook Pro on Mac OS 14.6 a couple months ago and now still on 14.7.1 with Illustrator 28.6 and 29.0. It happens whether the linked file is local or on a network share, and with multiple file types (.psd, .jpg, .png). The problem exists in every Illustrator project opened on the affected systems whether old or new.

Hello @MatthewM_LT,

It seems like you’re encountering an issue with the Links panel not showing the correct creation and modification dates for linked files, and I can understand how frustrating that must be, especially with multiple file types and projects.

To help us investigate this further, could you please share the following details, as my colleague Anubhav suggested:

1. The affected file(s) and links that are showing incorrect date information.

2. Test the issue in a new document: Copy the content from an existing project and relink the files there. If you’re still able to replicate the issue, a screen recording would be very helpful.

3. The macOS system report (you can get this here: System Report).

Once we have this information, I’ll be able to escalate it to the team for a deeper look. Thank you for your patience!

Best,

Anshul Saini

I've got the same problem. Just reproduced it with a quick test file, dragged in two images from the Pictures folder and the dates are not just wrong, they are the same totally wrong date and time. It's a bug in your software and from reading this page, it seems to be a problem for years. Running macOS 18.4.1 and Illustrator 29.5, the latest of each. No server involved, and a brand new Illustrator file. See attached files as proof.

Same problem here. MacbookPro Sonoma. Illustrator 28.5 annd 29.01
Maybe Feb 6, 2040 is the date they plan on fixing this bug?!

Hello @345580,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I tried replicating this behavior on my end but could not. Would you mind sharing more details,  like a sample file after packaging it, a screen recording of the problem, and the macOS system report (https://adobe.ly/4fE0DKq), so I can check it with team?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

You may want to share at least one of the files you are linking in Illustrator.

Are you linking the files from remote locations?

no, the images are in a folder with the .ai file

All placed links show a creation and modified date of Feb 6, 2040.  It doesn't matter if the link is stored locally or on a server. Dates of the file in the folder are correct but not in the LINKS panel.  Anyone have a fix for this?

Hello @dexter258854449fya,

Thanks for reaching out. Would you mind confirming if Illustrator behaves this way with all files? If not, kindly share a download link to the file you're having trouble with, so we can better assist you.

Also, try updating to the latest version of Illustrator 28.3 (https://adobe.ly/492DSeJ) and share your observations.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Anubhav

Bonjour,

Dans la dernière version d'illustrator, la date de création et de modification sont identiques.

Comment afficher la bonne date de modification ?
J'utilise un Mac book pro avec Ventura 13.2
Merci de votre aide.

Hi @IMUST - Jean-28330232oud9,

Thanks for reaching out. This is a known issue, and the product team is aware of it. A bug is already logged for this.

Would you mind upvoting this UserVoice (https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-bugs/suggestions/40686439-creation-and-modified-date-become-the-same-on-illu) and adding your comment there? This will help prioritize the bug to get fixed.

Thanks,

Anshul Saini
