Loss of RGB properties when placing an image in Illustrator

Hello,

Whenever I place a RGB image into a .ai doc the image losses some of its color features. For example, a section that is 100% green (R:0, G:255, B:0) turns in Illustrator into a dark green (photo). This happens whether the doc is in RGB or CMYK format. If I export as a TIFF or PDF is the same problem.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
