Question

mac pro 2013 vs iMac Pro

I work all day in Illustrator on my 2013 Mac Pro (dustbin version) and each update to Illutrator makes everything run slower and slower - its ok - but painful when you are procession lots of designs.

Stripped out all unsed apps, anti virus etc and reinstalled BIG SUR - makes the machine a bit better.

After 7 years with my dustbin - thinking of splashing out on a new all singing all dancing iMac Pro - has anyone got actual real world experience on how Illustrator run on the iMac Pro - should I stick with the dustbin or move to a PC?

Thanks

I mean you are lucky if you have a computer from 2013 that is still running.

I have two older computers (not that old), that are getting slower and slower.  Unfortunately it is what it is. As time goes on you will need to update and get a new computer.

My suggestion would be not to get Mac this time.  Get a PC.... either a laptop or PC Tower.  If you get a PC Tower you can continue to change components.  This is so much more affordable then buying a Mac.  Trust me I used to love Macs.... but now I see the benefits of PCs.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. In addition to the suggestions given in earlier responses, I'd recommend checking out the system requirements of the Adobe Illustrator. Hope it helps.

If you are talking about the brand new ARM-based iMac Pros, they'd be the cat's pajamas but just know there are still teething issues with many things, including Adobe apps. They're getting there, but it ain't flawless yet. You also need to consider any of the other software you use may require major updates or may just plain not work.

Hi as you update the illustrator it will become slower because new things in it which need more power so it is better not to update...regards
