Mac: Workplace window is resizing whenever I zoom in or zoom out

I'm using Adobe illustrator 2024 on a Mac Studio Apple M2 Max. The application is glitching and the workplace window is resizing on its own, whenever I zoom in or zoom out, what can I do to fix this?

As a point of reference, Photoshop 2024 works fine on my system and does not have the same issues with auto-resizing.

I'm using a Samsung QN90BA50 for my monitor, and I use a program called "BetterSnapTool" to size my windows to fit the screen.

I think it has something to do with me using Raycast. The issue occurs, when I open illustrator or indesign AFTER raycast has been open, which is usually always, because Raycast opens on start-up. If I close Raycast, open up the respective Adobe Software and open Raycast afterwards, I doesn't seem to happen anymore.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind trying to run Illustrator under Safe Mode (Windows / macOS) and checking if it helps?
Also, try disabling BetterSnapTool and share your observations.

I also have the exact same problem. Disabling BetterSnapTool doesn't change the behavior. It's to my knowledge only present in Illustrator as I'm also using InDesign and Photoshop frequently and haven't run into the issue. I'm still on 2023. On a sidenote: transferring preferences from 2023 to 2024 didn't work this time for some obscure reason, which is why I haven't made the switch. It really feels like for each new AI feature you guys sprinkle in a couple of random bugs to keep us entertained, while at the same time you haven't yet managed in 2024(!) for a product suite you call "Cloud" to introduce a reliable backup of preferences to the cloud (or any at all really). I know I'm digressing here, but I got to say, there is no other software in my life, that I pay for, that keeps getting more annoying to work with each year. I really don't know what's happening at Adobe, but I strongly feel you should get back to basics or else you will lose everyone to Figma and Canva eventually.

  • Are you using macOS Sonoma?
  • Does the same issue occur when you remove the secondary screen?
  • Does turning off GPU performance help?

I'm sorry to inform you that you've been failing for several years now in "striving to provide better and more stable applications". More features sure. But also bugs over bugs over bugs. I fully understand, that developing software is a complex endeavour and I'm well aware that it must be incredibly hard to maintain software over more than 20 major versions, as you do with something like Photoshop, but every inch of this software suite is weighed down but this huge legacy and one can feel it every day. It's a huge and frustrating pain.

To answer your questions:

And I noticed, that contrary to what I said earlier in InDesign I'm experiencing the exact same issue.
