Maintain width and height proportions not working

I have the maintain width and height proportions linked, but it never works. The objects keep being disproportionate when resizing them.

 

What's the solution to this?

    That only works if you change the values, not if you manually resize an object.

    When manually resizing, hold down the Shift key.

      Holding down the shift key is one way to scale an object proportionally, but I've always used the top bar, it's just quicker. The link used to stay linked, now you have to link it every time you scale width or height to keep and object in proportion, it adds an extra step.

      Which version? Works for me as expected in the 2025 version.
