Hi, i'm illustrating an image and want to clip it with a square border, the object are in a few different layers, is there any way to do this without grouping the object together into one layer?

You may create an additional main layer, drag and drop the existing layers onto it to make them sublayers. Then you can draw any path in the main layer, highlight that layer and create a layer clipping path (see button at the bottom of the Layers palette).
