Make selected objects highlighted in the layers panel

I've been googling this forever and can't find an easy solution.

How do I simply take a bunch of selected objects (with the selection tool) and make them highlighted in the layers panel (so I can drag them into a sub-layer).

Thank you

Command click on the objects names in the layer panel to highlight each of the objects names. Forget about the blue squares to right of radio button, unless you use those to know what layers to Command click. Then drag from where I show and drop.

Thank you for answering, but I know how to select/highlight in the layer panel.

What I need is a way to highlight multiple objects that I have selected with the selection tool in the artboard.

(A workaround would be to group the selection, put the group in a sub-layer, and then ungroup, but I was hoping for a faster and more convenient way..)

In case I understand your request correctly, you may just drag the selection indicator right to the layer name to the desired sublayer.

That is for example:

- You have one main layer L1 that contains ten circles as well as one empty sublayer S1

- Select five circles on the artboard

- In the Layers palette, drag the selection indicator of L1 onto S1

I've tried that; You're only able to drag one object/layer at a time with the selection indicator.

No, that's not true, Lasse.

How exactly did you try it?

Sorry, I misread your answer. Yes, dragging the selection indicator of the layer drags the selected layers/objects within.
This works for me! Thanks for the help, Kurt.

As for my original question; Is there no way to make multiple selected layers to be highlighted and vice verca?

There is a Send object to current layer command, but it won't work with sub-layers.

So what you can do is: select a layer (make anew one if needed), select the objects then go to Object>Arrange>Send to current layer. In the Layers window you'll have your objects in this layer, from here you can move grab the object in the sub-layer you want, or grab the layer to change it into a sub-layer of your choice.
