The Classic 3D effect will give the best results when you want to expand it as vectors (Object > Expand Appearance)
For the best precision you will need to change the Y axis, the new 3D effect already uses this angle, but the Classic one needs to have the Isometric Y changed to 35,264389

I'm presently still using Illustrator 2020.
Here is a link I bookmarked long ago on this same topic

I ended up going with an extrude depth of about 140. 200 is more of a rectangle. I might be missing something, though.
The expanded appearance did not seem to change much other than where the outline was.
I am using 2024

THe extrude depth needs to match the height/width of the base square. You can enter other units into the 3D & Materials dialob box. Expanding should give you paths.
Alternatively you can create this from hexagons and a line using the shapebuilder tool.

Thank you for the in-depth info. I was able to adjust it to make what I wanted.

I used 200 for the extrude depth because my rectangle was 200x200. It has to be the same.
