mapping art to a 3d object as a whole

Hello,

So I'm trying to mab a symbol to the side of a 3d guitar I made using extrude and bevel from a closed path.

The problem is, instead of being able to map the whole side, I can only map parts of the side, which are also automatically unevenly matched to whatever I try to map to it (the mapping rectangles in the right of the image are uneven in width).

So how do I fix this?

Thanks for your help

Illustrator makes the the surfaces depending on the point type.

There need to be smooth points all around and then there's a chance that it works the way you expect. It might still fail though.
