Masking Text

Hello, awesome community,

I need some help with masking a shape. In the attached screenshot, I have text displayed on a rectangular gradient in the background. I want to cut through the rectangular gradient so that I can see the background through my text while keeping the text editable. I know this can be achieved if I outline the text but in my case, I would like to keep the text editable. Please refer to the screenshot for a better understanding.
