Hey all, I hope you can help me with this:

I'm looking for a possibility to measure paths In Illustrator. What I want to do exactly is to measure the lenght of individual letters or words. How can I do this? I suppose I will have to manipulate the letters so that they're displayed in single paths through the middle line of the letters, not outlines. How would I do that? And how can I measure the paths then? Thank you in advance for your help!

Have you tried simply using the Measure Tool (bundled with the Eyedropper Tool)? You simply click at the beginning and end of the distance you want to measure and the result will appear in the Info Panel. Any angle you may be measuring at will be shown next to the actual distance as seen in the screen shot.

Hi,  I've also found how to change the proportions of an object to exact measurements.  This is via the Properties Tool, via the Window drop down menu.  If you group the whole object, select it, and look on the Proporties Tool then you can enter in your desired measurements in the Transform measurements boxes.  You can constrain proportions with the chain icon.

I used this to size logos (included words in expanded text) to an exact size needed.
