What happens if you hold the Alt/Option key when trying?

If you select everything, then Pathfinder>Alt/Option+Minus front should turn it into a Compound Shape where the front path punches a hole into the group of objects (while keeping the paths in the group), and you can Release Compound Shape so it is reversible.

You'll have to select the multiple objects (except for the shape you wish to minus front from), then make a compound path out of them.

Next, select your top object as well as the compounded objects and minus front from the pathfinder tools.
