missing plug in for linked files 25.3.1

OK, I've seen this message posted before but not on recent versions.

Running 25.3.1 on a 16" MBP. Strangely the file has no such issue when I open it in exactly the same version software on an iMac. Tried deleting and re-installing Illustrator and re-saving the ai file. Same error only on the MBP.

Any ideas?

Which system is installed on both the computers?

Did you run the Adobe Cleaner tool between uninstall and reinstall?

Also: where does that JPEG originate from, has it been resaved in some software after downloading from iStock?

Catalina. Clean uninstall. JPEG not unusual, plus the file has no problem on the other machine. the iStock question intrigues me.
