Mockup: Artwork set to "Multiply" by default

I'm experimenting with the Mockup feature, and I'm not sure if this is a bug, or if I'm just doing something wrong. In the screenshot example, I have two versions of a logo, and I'm attempting to use the bottom logo on the right, with the white/teal graphic and white text (no gray background). I haven't applied any transparency affects, but when I place it on the image and go to "Object > Mockup > Make", the vector image appears to be automatically set to "Multiply", even though when I double-click on the vector graphic to edit the opacity, it still shows blending mode to be "Normal."

I've tried this with a few different vector files, as well as different image files, all with the same results. I even tried just typing some generic text in white, and it still had what appeared to be a "Mulltiply" effect applied to it by default, with no option to change it.

I also experimented in both CMYK & RGB modes.

I've watched a couple of different YouTube tutorials that seem to show the intial vector being applied without any blending mode built in. Has something changed, or am I doing something wrong? (linking the tutorials below)

Select it and try and set it to knockput group in the Transparency panel.
