Modifier Keys (OPT SHIFT CMD) not working with some Tools

Community Beginner ,

My Keyboard modifiers seem to work, however as soon as I use mapped modifier keys with mouse, they did work and now they don't work as expected.

I use Illustrator 2024 (28.6) on MacOS Sonoma (14.6.1) with use a MX Master 3 and program forward and Backward buttons to Modifier keys (ie OPT SHIFT CMD) as shortcut keys.

I am specifically trying to figure out if this is a problem with Illustrator or LogiOptions+. I'm not sure exactly when they stopped if it was Adobe or Logitech software updates.

  1. I normally use the 'OPTION' to create a shape (ie rectangle [M]) from the centre out or to change scroll wheel to zoom by holding option, or 'SHIFT' to create 1:1 ratio shapes. *I also used to resize using [V]
  2. I know I can use the keyboard and this works but I prefer to use mouse. It was working and for some reason this has stopped working for me.
  3. It sort of works in InDesign with some weird things happening/not happening all the time and Acrobat seems to work fine with what edit tools I can test.
  4. I have also tried changing to the LogiOptions+ Advanced Click rather than the Shortcut Keys.
  5. I have tried older version of Illustrator, I have tried Beta and reset preferences, shortcuts...everything.
  6. I have checked all OS shortcuts.
  7. I have logged support with Logitech.
  8. I am putting together testing notes as it is different across the Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat and Keyboard/Mouse. This is available if you want to look at. I can attach or link to PDF.

Any help or tester would be appreciated!

The final Answer is keep using LogiOptions "Modifiers" and NOT LogiOptions+ "Keyboard Shortcuts".

The "Keyboard Shortcuts" when programmed as OPT SHIFT CMD keys do not translate from LogiOptions+ to Illustrator for Shape and Selection tools. The "Keyboard Shortcut" OPT works to control Zoom.

Still not sure if this is a Logitech to Adobe Illustrator communication problem from the "Keyboard Shortcut" programmed buttons.

Several apps interfere with Illustrator's modifier keys and the app you use might be among them.

Here is a list of apps that have already been identified to interfere:

  • WebRoot
  • Apple Terminal
  • Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • »Enable Full Keyboard« in Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard on Mac OS
  • »Keyboard Navigation« in Apple settings > Keyboard
  • Apple Mail, Outlook
  • Spacebar is used as a shortcut by the system
  • Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari
  • Wacom Desktop Center, Wacom settings
  • Windows Touch Pad problem
  • LastPass, Bitwarden (password managers)
  • The VPN
  • LangSwitcher app (it needs to be closed and disabled)
  • Notes

Thanks for the list. Like I said in my post the modifier keys (on the keyboard) works fine with the tools, so that identifies there is no conflict.

The issue is with using the mouse buttons mapped to modifier keys specifically from the MX Master 3 mouse and Logi Options+ software.

I'd love it if someone else would test and see if it works or not for them.

OK so, I have installed, uninstalled LogiOptions+ many times as per Logitech Terminal --full --uninstall instructions and Illustrator too. One of the times I removed Bluetooth devices and when I reinstalled after, it brought through details from original LogiOptions (Not+) app which was not installed. So I installed LogiOptions again and found that the LogiOptions previously programmed buttons used "modifiers" NOT "keyboard shortcut". "Modifiers" is no longer available in the LogiOptions+ app. I have also tested now on windows and everything works as expected using LogiOptions+ "Keyboard shortcut" in Illustrator, with no problems. My next test will be to remove all programming on MacOS in LogiOptions and Try again in LogiOptions+. Looks like not Adobe Illustrator problem. I hope this helps someone in the future. I will add another reply to this when and if the uninstall reinstall works...wish me luck.
