Question

Multiple boxes around placed images in AI, updating placed images, Camera blur

I have 3 questions/comments here.

1. I had to take a break from using Illustrator and now I'm experiencing some unfamiliar issues. When I place a psd image into an ai file, I've noticed there are 2 or more 'boxes' associated with the image. One is the placed image; what is or are the other ones?

2. Previously, when working in AI, if I needed to revise a psd and changed it in PhotoShop, Illustrator would ask if I wanted to update the image in my ai file. That doesn't happen now; how do I fix it?

3. I was really disappointed by the removal of a great PhotoShop filter that corrected 'camera blur'. No explanation is given for why it has been discontinued. Does anyone know if there is an option?

As for your question Nr. 2: In the Illustrator preferences there is a section called File Handling. In the Files section there is a dropdown menu to choose how updates of linked files are treated ("automatically", "manually" or "ask when modified").

Probably you want to turn on the "ask when modified" option.

You mean a Photoshop filter has been removed from Photoshop?

As for your PSD files in Illustrator - those objects might be clipping masks. You can always check that in the Layers panel.

Yes! If you go to the Help menu and ask about camera shake, there is a box that says "Goodbye, Camera Shake Reduction!" and goes on to say that "With the April release of Photoshop 23.3, Camera Shake Reduction (Filter.Sharpen.Shake Reduction) will be removed..."
