Multiple Illustrators for multiple files

Participant ,

On a Mac running El Capitan, I am pretty up to date in my CC apps. I have a strange thing happening. If I open an Adobe file (AI, Pshop, ID) from Bridge or in the Finder it opens and I see the little black arrow appear under the "Ai" icon—if it's an Illustrator file, of course, but it's the same for all apps—as it should. If I open another AI file the same way another Ai icon pops up on my dock with the little black arrow. It appears from the Dock that I have two versions of Ai running. If I look in Activity Monitor, sure enough there are two AI apps running. If I open a third file I assume that yet another Ai app would open on the dock, but I haven't tried that yet. I cannot drag a file from Bridge to the first open Ai app and have it open. I can't right click and select open. When I do, my right click menu gives me the option of three identical Ai apps. I only have one. Any ideas as to what is happening?

Thanks,

MH Brown

Well, OK, you can move it, but it happens in InDesign and Photoshop, too. So it is NOT an AI problem it is more broadly an ADOBE problem. Didn't you read my post?

Hi Mike Fernbank,

In order to assist you further on this we would require some information like

Operating System(Exact version of MAC)

Exact version of Illustrator

Screenshot of activity monitor with multiple instances of all three applications Illustrator , InDesign and Photoshop.

Screenshot of right click menu, where it show 3 identical Ai apps.

It's not solved.

I'm using Mac 10.11.6

The screen shot shows the three versions available, but I only have one installed. As you can see, Bridge v 6.1.1.10 shows multiple versions of all the apps that can open a .jpg image. If I pick the one that is not already open, it opens a completely new version. It even appears on the dock as a completely new version (a second Pshop icon shows up in the dock, for example.) This multiverse only happens in Bridge.

Hi Mike,

Can you uninstall Illustrator and run the CC Cleaner Tool? Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

Let us know if that solves the issue for you.

Best,

Wren

Hi Mike Fernbank,

In addition to Wren's suggestion please check if you get multiple instances in Bridge's preferences

For that open Bridge ,

click Bridge > Preferences> Startup Scripts Bridge preferences.png

And also is there is any backup utility installed on system?
