Must I expand the texture Brushes & Patterns (Swatch) for print?

Question

Hi, I just work on an Illustration with lots of patterns and texture brushes.

And I would print it by online print company.

Must I all patterns and texture brushes expand for print - to be safe? (A test print at home works good without expanding anything.)

Has anyone experiences about that?

- PDF/X-1a:2001 und Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3)
- ISO Coated v2 300

- Transparancy Flatten: High Resolution

I've sent a couple of patterns into print as part of my book.

Never worried about them and they never gave me a reason to worry.

PDF/X is standardized. So you can open it in Acrobat and run a preflight test on them. If they meet the standard, then they're good.

The only thing that can still happen is a printer who opens your PDF in a non-suitable application (not Acrobat). But then you will get a couple of other issues as well. If you are still worrying, you should talk to the printer about what they are doing with the file and if patterns could be an issue. Your patterns contain quite an amount of paths.

There are no brushes in a PDF. When saving the PDF this gets expanded automatically.
