I don't have any experience with Cricut machines. But if it works similar to other large format print/cut setups the machine will only print the image held inside the clipping mask lettering. A duplicate path of the text would be needed above the clipping image to function as a cut path.

If Bobby's answer doesn't work please tell us step by step what's happening and quote the exact error you are getting from Illustrator? the Cricut driver?

Dear kadijah

The issue you're facing with your clipping mask in Adobe Illustrator. I understand that you're trying to create a compound mask and prepare it for cutting using your Cricut machine. I'll be glad to assist you in resolving this matter.

To create a compound mask from a clipping mask in Adobe Illustrator, please follow these steps:

  1. Ensure that your text and flag are properly arranged and grouped together.
  2. Select both the text and flag by clicking and dragging over them or by using the Selection Tool (V) to individually select each element while holding the Shift key.
  3. Right-click on the selected elements and choose "Make Clipping Mask" from the context menu. This will create a clipping mask that hides any part of the text that falls outside the boundaries of the flag.
  4. With the clipping mask still selected, go to the "Object" menu, navigate to "Compound Path," and select "Make" or use the keyboard shortcut (Cmd/Ctrl+8). This will convert the clipping mask into a compound path, allowing you to create a clean, unified shape for cutting purposes.
  5. Finally, you can save or export the compound path as a compatible file format for your Cricut machine, such as SVG or PDF.

If you encounter any difficulties during this process, please provide me with additional details or any error messages you may be receiving. I'll be more than happy to assist you further and troubleshoot the issue accordingly.

Best regards
