My dialog boxes are massive and I'm losing my mind

Photos attached below show my problem. Photo of the gigantic save box spans 2 screens.

I've had it for months now, maybe over a year and it only happens when I am using my 2nd screen. Today it made my blood boil enough to finally come here and ask. My solution is that when I am trying to do tasks involving these dialog boxes I just temporarily unplug the 2nd screen. You can imagine how much that disrupts my work flow.

I have Windows 10 and the most up-to-date illustrator according to my Creative Cloud.

Do you perhaps have some scaling set up in the system settings for the monitor? Bigger menus or the like?

Hi @K4moZu,

I understand how frustrating it can be when dialog boxes in Illustrator span across multiple screens. Let's try to resolve this issue for you. Here are some steps you can take:

Check Display Settings:

  • Right-click on your desktop and select "Display settings."
  • Ensure that the arrangement of your displays is correct. You can drag and drop the display icons to match the physical layout of your screens.
  • Make sure the displays are extended and not duplicated.

Scaling and Resolution:

  • Sometimes, issues like this can occur if there is a significant difference in the scaling or resolution between your two screens. Make sure both screens have similar resolution & scaling settings.
  • To adjust scaling settings, right-click on your desktop, select "Display settings," and under "Scale and layout," set both screens to the same scaling percentage.

Graphics Driver Update:

  • Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause display issues.
  • Visit the website of your graphics card manufacturer (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel) to download and install the latest drivers for your graphics card.

Illustrator Preferences:

  • Open Illustrator.
  • Go to "Edit" (Windows) or "Illustrator" (macOS) > "Preferences" > "General."
  • In the Preferences window, under the "User Interface" section, experiment with the "Ui Scailing" settings.

Reset Illustrator Preferences (as a last resort):

  • Sometimes, corrupted preferences can lead to strange issues. You can reset Illustrator preferences to their default settings.
  • To do this, close Illustrator and then press and hold Shift + Ctrl + Alt (Windows) or Shift + Command + Option + Control (macOS) while starting Illustrator. A dialog will appear asking if you want to reset your preferences.

After trying these steps, restart Illustrator and see if the issue is resolved. Please let me know if it persists, and we can explore further troubleshooting options.

Best,

Anshul Saini
