my drop shadow on my font disappears when I put it on the page.

I'm having trouble with drop shadows that was placed on text (done through Effect>Illustrator Effects>Stylize>Drop Shadows). If I drop shadow a font and put it on the page even though it is the top layer the drop shodow disappears once pulled onto the page. you can see tthee green D down botttom left with the font dropshadow working off the side but disappearing on the page itself. any ideas. i restarted illustrator but the problem persists. please advise.
