Need help joining / grouping multiple lines!

Hi!

I'm relatively new to illustrator and am designing a logo for a local restaurant. I have the outline of my logo done, but need help joining / grouping the lines so I can color the entire graphic.

I've tried CMD+J but it creates closed path loops that look horrendous. (see photo 2)

I've tried CMD+G to group them so I can use the shape builder but since the paths aren't properly closed, it doesn't really do anything.

Do I need to go through each of my paths to close each of them off? Seems like such a painstakingly long and arduous process so I'm looking for an easier way.

Please help!!

Thanks

You could try Live Paint.

If there are areas that are not closed and you do not want to close them with a visible line, you can draw with a no fill no stroke path to define where the paint should stop before you select all to make Object > Live Paint  > Make. (you can also draw these lines later and merge them with the Live Paint Group.
