Need help to "crop/delete" empty space

Hello,

I am new to Adobe Illustrator since last night and I am trying to delete/crop away some empty space from a logo I have made.

I have searched but not found a simple way to do it, probably because I lack the termenology so I do not know what words to use when searching for the problem I am trying to solve.

Please see attached print screen where I have marked the area which I would like to remove/delete. The end goal is to make sure that when I edit the size of the "drawing area/canvas" and auto adapt it to the size of the drawing (logo), the white (empty space) area should go away. To be clear, the white area underneath the logo text is not part of the logo and should be removed.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

Untestet, but with no other tricks.

Save a copy and outline the text. Crop the artboard and delete all paths. Go to your original document and copy your live-text-logo. Paste in or paste in place in your empty (copied) document and save again.

The text is still editable. That's a no-go when delivering a logo. You should keep a version of the logo with "live" text for yourself, but for the client, outline text (Type > Convert to outline) and then adjust the artboard and then send to the client.

Ok, thanks for the advice @Monika Gause . But will this solve my problem?

Thanks @Met1 . I did listen but I was wondering if I could solve the problem in the live copy. 🙂 Will try and see if clipping mask does the trick. Editing the artboard does not.

You could apply Effect > Path > Outline object  to the text.

When you export it, it will be outlined. In your AI file, it won't be outlined.

If you turn on "Use Preview bounds" in the Preferences, you can automatically resize the artboard to the glyph bounds.

But: if the file is handled by an inexperienced person, this might still go wrong. Your choice.

Invoke the artboard tool, fit it to the artwork.

Thanks @Mylenium but I have already tried that and I am not sure if it works. Because when I select all abjects the blue frame seems to tell me that there is still something outside of the artboard. Also, when I test and adjuste the size of the artboard using the setting "adjust to drawing" (I am using Swedish version so I do not know what it is called in english..) it expands again. Please see attached print screen.

To remove single anchor points and empty text objects try: Objects > Paths > Clean Up...
