Negative Offset Path

I am creating a button on illustrator 23.1.1 and the positive offset path is working for my shape but the negative offset path does not work. Any suggestions?

I am trying to create a negative offset path and it just keeps duplicating the same size. When I create a positive offset path it works perfectly.

Your Offset is set to Inches. As te_co was suggesting, your Offset seems to be larger than your shape. We don't know the size of your shape so I'm only guessing that if you use Pixels or a smaller Offset, you will get your desired result. You can change your units from inches to pixels in the preferences or you can simply type in -7px in the Offset Panel. I hope this helps 😃
