Hello! Does anyone know of a keyboard shortcut that will make a new layer? Thank you!
By default it's Ctrl + L or Cmd + L
You can change the shortcut, if you like.

So, CTL+L makes a new layer, but doesn't open the dialog box, so you still have to use the mouse in order to name the layer. It sounds nit-picky, but I'm converting older files to AI and it requires generating multiple new layers in lots of files. So a keystroke that simultaneously creates a new layer and opens the dialog box would shave some time off. Thoughts?

One way might be to make a file with all the layers you want with a single point in a known location or with an odd color. from that file select the layers you need and copy/paste into the old file. You will have to make sure that Paste Remembers Layers is on in the old file. Then delete the placeholder points.

I altered my Ai keyboard shortcuts so the layer commands are identical to Photoshop. I never have to think of which app uses which shortcuts that way.
